Validation of Youth Backbiting Scale

Abstract
This study is a secondary study on youth backbiting scale, and 504 students who experienced backbiting among students enrolled in middle and high schools in D city were collected and validated through cross-analysis and convergent validity. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 27.0. The final backbiting motivation scale was derived from ¡®passive aggression¡¯ 5 items, ¡®recognition desire¡¯ 3 items, ¡®relationship desire¡¯ 5 items, and ¡®competition desire¡¯ 4 items, and the validity of 17 items of 4 factors was confirmed. As for the backbiting function scale, the derived 'desire satisfaction function' 8 items' and 'dysfunction function' 6 items confirmed the validity of 14 items with 2 factors. In the scale of backbiting emotion relief, the validity of 9 items with 2 factors was confirmed with 5 items of 'resolving feelings' and 4 items of 'discomfort feelings'. Cronbach's ¥á value for the youth backbiting motivation scale, function scale, and emotion relief scale for examining internal consistency was .70 to .84, which showed reliable values. It was confirmed that the youth backbiting scale had a significant correlation with the relational aggression and the conflict coping method. Finally, the implications derived from the study results and suggestions for future research are presented.
